Choosing a supplier
What actually matters when you pick a CNC machining company
Price per piece is the easiest thing to compare and the least useful. These are the criteria that decide whether a supplier relationship survives the second year.
Process capability, not sample quality
Anyone can make one good part. What matters is whether the process is capable and stable across a shift, a batch and a year. Ask for capability indices, not a first article.
The right machine for the geometry
A slender Ø 4 mm shaft belongs on a sliding head automatic, not a turret lathe. A supplier with only one machine type will quote everything on it — and you pay for that in cycle time.
Documentation you will actually need
PPAP, IMDS, FMEA and control plans are not paperwork for its own sake. If your supplier cannot produce them, your own customer audit will find out.
Material supply chain
A machined part is only as traceable as its bar stock. European sourcing with mill certificates removes an entire class of problem before it starts.
Secondary operations under one roof
Plating and heat treatment split across three suppliers means three delivery risks and an argument when something is wrong. One responsible party is worth paying for.
Access to decision makers
In a company of thirty, a technical question reaches the person who can answer it the same day. That is a structural advantage a large group cannot copy.

Location advantage
Inside the EU, next to the customer
Breginj sits in north-west Slovenia, minutes from the Italian border. Northern Italy, Austria and southern Germany — the densest concentration of automotive and machine building customers in Europe — are within a day's transport.
That matters more than it used to. EU-internal supply removes customs friction, keeps lead times measured in days rather than weeks, and gives you a supplier operating under the same regulatory framework as your own plant.
- No customs formalities within the EU single market
- European material supply chain with mill certificates
- Short physical distance to Italian, Austrian and German industry
- Communication in English, Slovene, German and Italian

About working with us
What is a CNC machining company?
A CNC machining company is a contract manufacturer that produces metal components on computer numerically controlled machine tools to a customer's drawing. Unlike a product manufacturer it does not sell its own catalogue: the customer owns the design, and the machining company owns the process, the quality documentation and the delivery performance.
How big is your company?
Around 30 employees, more than 60 CNC machines and roughly 4,000 m² of production and storage. Small enough that the managing director answers the phone; large enough to run millions of parts a year.
What should I send to get a quotation?
A 2D drawing in PDF, ideally a 3D model in STEP format, the material specification, any surface treatment requirement, the annual quantity and the documentation level you need. Send it to info@kovinski-izdelki.si and we reply within 24 hours on working days.
Do you take on small batches and prototype work?
Yes — lot sizes start at 10 pieces and run up to 5,000,000. What you should know is that programming, tooling and machine setup cost the same whether the order is ten parts or ten thousand, so a small batch carries a high price per piece. Where the sample is a step toward series production, that setup work is not wasted: the same programme and fixtures run the production volume.
Which languages do you work in?
English, Slovene, German and Italian.
