A family business that grew from a village workshop into an IATF 16949 certified automotive supplier — without ever moving away from Breginj.
Our story
From Borjana to a purpose-built plant in Breginj
Kovinski izdelki Hrast d.o.o. was established in 1985 and originally registered in Borjana, in the municipality of Kobarid. As the order book grew, the village workshop ran out of room. In 2012 the company moved to Breginj, where it operates today from a purpose-built facility.
Production runs across more than 3,000 m², supported by a further 1,000 m² of raw material storage. That storage matters more than it sounds: holding bar stock in-house is what lets us react to a customer call-off in days rather than weeks.
Today we are a team of 20–49 people — large enough to deliver worldwide from a single plant, small enough that every order stays visible from enquiry to dispatch. More than 35 years of precision turning experience sits behind every quotation we send.
We remain a family-run company. Decisions are made by the people who will have to deliver on them, which is why our customers usually talk to the same faces for years.
What we actually do
The production programme
Our programme covers the whole range of precision machining and milling. Production runs on CNC automated lathes and CAM-driven machines; we manufacture assembly parts and finish semi-finished products on multi-spindle automatic lathes.
Turning
CNC sliding head and turret turning of bar and castings from Ø 2 mm to Ø 52 mm, including driven-tool milling, cross drilling, thread whirling and back working.
Secondary operations
Grinding, hard turning after heat treatment, deburring, ultrasonic washing and assembly of simple sub-components.
Surface treatment
Zinc, zinc-nickel, nickel, tin and copper plating, phosphating, passivation, nitriding and carburising through a qualified supplier network.
Inspection
Contact and non-contact measurement, CMM verification of complex geometry, SPC and 100% camera sorting where the part requires it.
Documentation
FMEA, process capability studies, PPAP level 5 packages, IMDS entries and a certificate of conformity with every delivery.
Logistics
Call-off deliveries, customer-specified packaging and labelling, and shipment throughout the European Union.
