The company

A family-run precision engineering company in the Slovenian Alps

Kovinski izdelki Hrast d.o.o. was founded in 1985 in Borjana in the municipality of Kobarid. In 2012 we moved into a purpose-built plant in Breginj, where we machine precision components on more than 3,000 m² of production floor supported by a further 1,000 m² of material storage.

Our production programme covers the full range of precision turning and milling. We run CNC sliding head automatics, CNC turret lathes, cam-driven automatics and multi-spindle machines, and we finish semi-finished parts and assemblies in-house. Continuous investment in machining technology — combined with a European raw material supply chain, full traceability and a high standard of part cleanliness — is what lets a company of our size compete on global markets.

We offer quality, service and competitiveness — without compromise.

The machine park behind the parts

Knowledge and experience count for little without the right machine for the job. This is what we run today.

Built for repeat series

Sliding head automatics do the bulk of the work: they hold micron tolerances on slender parts and run unattended through the night. Turret centres handle the larger and more complex geometries, hard turning covers components that must be machined after heat treatment, and the Hydromat transfer machines exist purely for volume.

Every part is washed in the ultrasonic plant and inspected before it is packed — technical cleanliness is a requirement, not an extra.

Quality assurance

Measured in microns, documented at every step

Our process organisation follows IATF 16949. We measure with current-generation contact and non-contact equipment, and we can resolve to microns where the drawing demands it. Depending on the part, we offer 100% camera inspection, SPC analysis of measured dimensions and CMM measurement of complex geometries.

  • Full traceability from raw material to finished component
  • Component-specific quality plans and bespoke gauging
  • Machine and process capability studies (SPC)
  • Non-contact optical measuring equipment
  • FMEA, process capability and full PPAP level 5 documentation on request
  • IMDS material data entry
  • Certificate of conformity with every delivery

Frequently asked questions

What buyers ask us first

What does Kovinski izdelki Hrast manufacture?

We manufacture CNC precision turned parts and custom machined components to customer drawings and specifications — shafts, pins, bushings, connectors, sensor housings, screws, bolts, nuts and washers — for the automotive, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, white goods and industrial engineering sectors. We are a contract manufacturer: we do not sell our own product range.

What component sizes can you machine?

Our CNC turning capacity covers precision machined components from 2 mm to 52 mm in diameter. Sliding head automatics handle the smaller, longer parts; turret turning centres cover the larger diameters and the more complex chucking work.

Do you support high-volume series production?

Yes. We manufacture millions of precision CNC turned parts per year on CNC sliding head lathes, CNC turret lathes, hard turning centres and Hydromat rotary transfer machines, and we supply repeat series under long-term supply agreements. Pre-series batches are machined on the same equipment that will run the production volume, so the process you approve is the process you receive.

Which materials do you machine?

Stainless steel in V2A and V4A, austenitic, ferritic and martensitic grades; structural, carbon, case-hardening, tempering, free-cutting, tool, spring and cold extruding steel; hardened steel; brass, copper and copper alloys; zinc alloys; aluminium in bar and cast form; titanium alloys; nickel alloys such as Inconel, Monel and Hastelloy; and thermoplastics. Material is sourced from European suppliers with full traceability.

What is the minimum order quantity?

We machine lot sizes from 10 pieces up to 5,000,000. Programming, tooling and machine setup cost roughly the same whether you order ten parts or ten thousand, so the price per part falls sharply with quantity. We are at our most competitive on repeat series — but a small first batch on the route to series production is entirely normal.

What quality certifications do you hold?

Our manufacturing processes are certified to IATF 16949 for automotive supply, BS EN ISO 9001:2015 for quality management and DIN EN ISO 14001 for environmental management. Current certificates are on the documents page.

Can you provide PPAP documentation and IMDS entries?

Yes. We prepare FMEA and process capability studies, full PPAP level 5 documentation on request, and IMDS material data entries. A certificate of conformity accompanies every delivery.

Where are you located and where do you ship?

Our plant is at Breginj 16, 5223 Breginj, Slovenia, in the north-west of the country close to the Italian border and within easy reach of the northern Italian, Austrian and southern German industrial regions. We ship throughout the European Union and beyond.

How do I request a quotation?

Send your drawing (PDF, ideally with a 3D STEP file), the annual quantity and the material specification to info@kovinski-izdelki.si, or use the contact form. We reply within 24 hours on working days.

Send us a drawing.

Tell us the part, the material and the annual volume. We will come back with a price, a lead time and an honest answer on whether it belongs on our machines.
